COLONIAL AND VOLCANOES ROUTE CENTRAL AMERICA
The colonial and volcanoes route is composed of cities and colonial towns, as well as volcanoes with different degrees of accessibility. It seeks the integration of Central America this route can be done with different variants according to the tastes and interests of travelers such as transportation semi and / or shared in some segments of the route, with or without permanent guide, rural accommodation and / or community to take a direct approach to our cultures, specific activities that embrace Adventure and Ecotourism
DAY 1- GUATEMALA CITY-ANTIGUA
Arrive at Guatemala City International Airport or bus Station Transportation to hotel in Antigua.
DAY 2- ANTIGUA – CHICHICASTENANGO –PANAJACHEL
Breakfast at 7:00 AM, departure to Chichicastenango to admire the famous open-air Indian market and Church of Santo Tomas, built 400 years ago. Here you can observe how locals mixed Catholic ceremonies and ritual pre-Hispanic. Continue to Panajachel, on the shores of Lake Atitlán, renowned for the breathtaking view of the lake and its three volcanoes: San Pedro, Toliman and Atitlan. Free afternoon to enjoy this peaceful and beautiful place.
DAY 3-BOAT TOUR 3 TOWNS: SANTIAGO, SANTA CATARINA PALOPÒ AND SAN PEDRO
Walk to the dock to board the boat and visit the picturesque towns of Santiago, San Pedro and Santa Catarina Palopo, and walk the streets: you can see how people live and how weavers, painters, etc. develop their own handy craft. By afternoon, return to Panajachel.
DAY 4- PANAJACHEL – QUETZALTENANGO
Breakfast and departure to Quetzaltenango, known as Xelaju, where narrow streets invite you to visit its historical center, Quetzaltenango is one of the most beautiful cities of the Highlands, which combine climate and cultural tradition. 9 km from the city are Zunil and Almolonga beautiful villages of origin Quiche, which you will visit on route. Accommodation in selected Hotel or similar
DAY 5- QUETZALTENANGO – TECPÁN – IXIMCHE – ANTIGUA
Breakfast and departure to Antigua, making a stop on route at Tecpán to visit Iximche and free time for lunch. Continue the route to Antigua. Accommodation in selected hotel or similar.
DAY 6- ANTIGUA – PACAYA VOLACANO
Depart to the slopes of the Pacaya Volcano, located in San Vicente Pacaya. It was declared a National Park, and is the most active volcano and accessible with a height of 2500 meters: we can climb it and enjoy this wonder of nature. Return to Antigua for accommodation.
DAY 7- COPÁN
Departure from hotel at 5:30 am, we will stop for breakfast (not included), crossing the Honduran border. This day we visit one of the most beautiful archeological sites of the Mayan world, in existence since 1200 years BC and later abandoned. This place has largest number of Mayan sculptures. Visit the Acropolis, Temple and Altar Q XI, erected by Yax-Pac, the last King of Copan. We will visit las Sepulturas. Accommodation in selected hotel or similar.
DAY 8- COPÁN – ESQUIPULAS – SANTA ANA (EL SALVADOR)
After breakfast. Departure to Esquipulas to visit the beautiful Basilica, where you can see the natives with their candles asking favors the Black Christ. Continue on the road and cross the border with El Salvador, call (Anguiatú) will arrive to the heroic city of Santa Ana, and visit the historical center, cathedral and Santa Ana Theatre.
DAY 9- SANTA ANA – JOYA DE CERÉN – SAN ANDRÉS – SAN SALVADOR
Early morning visit to Cerro Verde to enjoy one of the most breathtaking views of the region. From this place, we feel that we can almost touch with our hands the Izalco Volcano, which still remains active and has fumaroles in the crater. We will go down to lunch at the shore of Lake Coatepeque, located at the bottom of the crater of another volcano. In the afternoon, visit one of the most important prehistoric settlements: Joya de Ceren buried under ashes by the eruption of the volcano Caldera 1400 years ago. Found adobe buildings of the time (bahareque) with kitchens, pottery clay containing burned beans. Joya de Ceren has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO. Return to San Salvador, and accommodations in selected hotel or similar.
DAY 10- SAN SALVADOR – SUCHITOTO
Depart for a visit to the capital of El Salvador: residential areas, downtown, historic monuments and shopping area. Continue to Suchitoto, located 44 km from the capital. Its cobbled streets are a beautiful set with pastel-colored houses and wrought-iron gates. From there, you will have a lake view Suchitlán. Time for lunch. Accommodation in hotel selected or similar in Suchitoto.
DAY 11- SUCHITOTO – CHINANDEGA –EL GUASAULE BORDER – LEON
Very early departure to the border "Amatillo" through the cities of San Miguel and Usulután. We will have a beautiful view of the volcanic chain in El Salvador, as we shall see very closely at least four volcanoes. We cross the border with Nicaragua. Welcome at the Border "The Guasaule" and transfer to hotel in Leon. Upon arrival we tour the city, during which discover why the city of León is known as Ciudad Universitaria, Capital of Culture and Religion in Nicaragua. You can see the revolutionary murals, churches and neo-Baroque style, the museum of myths and legends, art and poetry. You will have the opportunity to visit the largest cathedral in Central America and enjoy from the top of its roof, a beautiful view of the volcanic range of Maribios. During the tour, of course, we will pass by numerous colonial buildings, including the first university in Nicaragua. Also, visit the museum Ruben Dario Ortiz Gurdian Foundation, and the churches of La Merced, La Recoleccion and Sutiava. Accommodation in hotel selected or similar
DAY 12- LEÓN – CERRO NEGRO - LEÓN
If you consider yourself an adventurous, looking for something different, the Cerro Negro Volcano tour is a great opportunity for you! This is an extreme activity that can be done sitting or standing on board, similar to snow skiing, except that here it is in the black, volcanic sand. First, we climbed the volcano (you take your board). It's an easy climb takes about an hour and a half, stopping to rest on the road. Once on top, we provide protective equipment and do a short demonstration. Going down is much easier and fun! It may take thirty minutes or less, depending on your courage and technique, after this unforgettable experience and adventure, back to Leon for accommodation.
DAY 13- LEÓN – MASAYA - GRANADA
In the morning we will go to the Ruins of Viejo Leon, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. On the way to Masaya, we can see the mountains of the Maribios, consisting of a chain of dormant volcanoes and active ones. Upon arrival at Masaya Volcano National Park, the road will provide access to the crater without having to get off the vehicle. Then we go to the City of Flowers, Masaya, also known as the Cradle of Folklore, visit the craft market where you will find demonstrations of crafts from around the country. Then we arrive at the viewpoint of Catarina, where is all the variety of crafts from the regions of Nicaragua. Back to Granada for accommodation.
DAY 14- Granada
In the morning, we will go to Mombacho Volcano, located at 1,300 meters above sea level, and has a unique microclimate for the region because of its altitude and cloud forest. We will see coffee plantations, wet conditions of the cloud forest on a path of 2.5 kilometers, the fauna and flora characteristic of the volcano. Along this path, we will discover a rare collection of orchids, butterflies, birds and panoramic views of Granada and the surrounding countryside.
Returning to Granada we will make a tour of the city, where we will tour the major sites, and then we drive to the Lake Nicaragua or Mar Dulce, take a boat tour through the canals of the islets of Granada. (Optional Activity: Kayaking in the Lake Nicaragua - Not included in price). Finally know the main attractions of Granada, their churches, the Cathedral, San Francisco Museum and Casa de los Tres Mundos. Accommodation in selected Hotel or similar
DAY15- GRANADA –MOMBACHO VOLCANO
Departure from the hotel to the Mombacho volcano is a biological station where we are going to start a visit to the volcano. We reach the top, through beautiful trails with ancient trees; with a guide of this nature, reserve can observe and get a lot of information about orchids and fauna of the place. In addition, we should also observe the fumaroles of sulfurous gases emanating from the volcano. The trails lead us to discover many of the advantages that have this beautiful resource and the elfin forest. Note that in this volcano, they plant and growing the best coffee in the fertility of their lands. Back to Granada. Free afternoon and overnight.
DAY 16- GRANADA – OMETEPE
At 7:00 AM, depart for the port of San Jorge, where we board a small boat that will take us to the island of Ometepe, Salvatorean indigenous religious sanctuary. There visit the Archaeological Museum of Altagracia, Punta Jesús María and lagoon Charco Verde, where we will know his legend. Accommodation in selected Hotel or similar
Early in the morning, we begin our Maderas Volcano hiking to the top, where you can take a dip in the lagoon if you wish and if weather conditions permit. By late afternoon, return to the hotel.
DAY 18- OMETEPE- ARENAL VOLCANO
Welcome at the Border with Nicaragua (Penas Blancas) transfer to your hotel in Arenal. In the afternoon departure from the hotel to take us on a walk in the Arenal Volcano National Park and then moved to Hot Springs selected to enjoy , where you will have time to relax. Includes dinner Accommodation in Selected Hotel or similar.
DAY 19- ARENAL
Free day for various activities and excursions of 1 day to various tourist destinations. Selected Hotel Accommodation
DAY 20- ARENAL - SAN JOSE

DAY 21- SAN JOSE –IRAZU VOLCANO, OROSÍ VALLEY AND LANKESTER GARDENS
Departure from your hotel to the South, to start the hike of the colossus Iztarú. The winding road travels through fertile lands cultivated with vegetables of all kinds, as we observe a lovely panoramic view. At the top of the volcano can observe the main craters descending to the city of Cartago, stop at the Basilica of La Virgen de Los Angeles. After visiting the Basilica, we moved to the Lankester Gardens, a research center at the University of Costa Rica that protects more than 800 species of orchids and bromeliads, and then we will move to the Valley of Orosi where creation overflows in unparalleled beauty. You can visit one of the few colonial churches in our tour will see "La Casa Del Soñador ", at the end of the route, back to San Jose Accommodation in selected Hotel.
Day 22- SAN JOSE –AIRPORT
At the time indicated, transfer to Juan Santamaria International Airport to return home.
